The nature of ghosts in terms of science

Are there ghosts? The number of evidence confirming their existence convinces us that it is at least silly to deny the phenomenon. The question should be put differently: what is the nature of the ghosts?

Law of energy conservation30

Modern scientists put forward very convincing theories, trying to conclude a phenomenon within the framework of physical laws. So, according to the American psychologist John Kachuba, there is evidence that a person’s soul does not disappear after death. And they are not based on observations and experiments of experts on paranormal phenomena, but on Einstein's famous theory of relativity.

According to the calculations of the great physicist, any matter (or energy) in the Universe does not disappear, but simply passes from one form to another. If we consider the inner essence of a person - the soul - as a type of energy, then it must be admitted that it cannot go anywhere either. In addition, Einstein believed that all the space around us was filled with an invisible substance - the ether.

Psychologist Kachuba suggested that the ether is the transformed energy. “When we eat, we convert the heat accumulated by plants or animals into a kind of biological electricity,” he writes. “It is this which makes the heart beat, the lungs breathe, so we can move. When physical death occurs, this electricity is released. It does not just melt in the air, but combines with the matter that fills this space, does not make it empty. ”

True, Kachuba believes, the etheric energy may not have anything to do with ghosts that people sometimes talk about. At least, there are no facts proving this connection.

His colleague Neil Johnson of the University of Chicago is convinced that any event of a "otherworldly" nature has a completely rational explanation. For example, light bulbs may blink due to faulty wiring, the creaking of floorboards or sounds coming from neighbors are sometimes taken for signs of the presence of spirits, and the sudden disappearance and appearance of various objects can be easily explained by simple human forgetfulness.

Death visions31

Those who have experienced clinical death often describe fantastic images and visions that appeared to them in this state. For example, they say that they were in a narrow dark tunnel, at the end of which the light flickered, communicated with a certain luminous being, which they took for God, as well as with their dead loved ones.

As a rule, people see in these visions proof of the existence of the afterlife. Recently, doctors from the Medical Center of George Washington University (USA) found an explanation for this. They investigated the encephalograms of dying patients and found that electrical activity was increasing in their brain.

“Near-death experience can be explained by the rise in electrical energy released when the brain lacks oxygen,” said Lakhmir Chawla, doctor of the intensive care unit, who observed an increase in electrical activity in the brain of patients at least 50 times. - When the blood supply slows down and the oxygen level drops, the brain cells produce the last electrical impulse. Having arisen in one part of the brain, it then spreads avalanchely throughout its entire area, and this can cause unusual sensations. ”

Shortly before the Americans made a sensational discovery by Swiss scientists. It turns out that during the electrical stimulation of one of the brain zones, a person experiences “exit from the body” sensations characteristic of clinical death.

One of the patients of the clinic at the University of Geneva, suffering from epilepsy, during an electric shock on the angular gyrus of the right cerebral hemisphere, felt that it falls from a great height and then rises above its own body and hovers under the ceiling.

Perhaps, in the near future, anyone can make an exit from the body by paying a small amount to stimulate the brain with electrodes!

Deceptive drafts

Renowned paranormal researcher psychologist Richard Weisman of Hartfordshire University has long and very seriously engaged in the study of such phenomena. He recruited a group of volunteers to survey places where ghosts are most often observed.

Among them - the famous Hampton Court in England and the crypts of the South Bridge in Edinburgh. The subjects were asked to record any unusual phenomena that they would encounter. So they told that they observed in the Palace of Justice a phantom of one of the numerous wives of King Henry VIII - Catherine Howard.

For more than one century, terrible legends circulated about the appearance of the ghost of a queen condemned to life imprisonment within the walls of the former residence of the English kings. In February 1542 she died here. Since then, from time to time in the palace passages chilling screams and moans are heard. And sometimes a misty white silhouette glides silently through the halls ...

Such rumors frightened tourists who came to Hampton Court, and the flow of visitors was noticeably asleep. The directorate of the museum asked for help from scientists at the University of Hartfordshire. Throughout the building, special equipment was installed to capture infrared radiation and the movement of air masses.

It soon became clear that the "supernatural" phenomena are the result of ordinary drafts. Doorways in the palace are located so that in some parts of the building there are sharp temperature drops, causing a shift of air layers. The optical effect of this shift is usually taken as a ghostly figure. The same drafts are the culprits of mysterious gravestones.

Despite the fact that some anomalous phenomena were recorded on the film (in Edinburgh, eyewitnesses observed a strange white cloud silently floating on the crypt), the skeptic Weisman believes that such miracles are either products of the human brain or real phenomena that occur in certain conditions: temperature, humidity, acoustics, lighting, etc.

Infrasound is to blame for everything!32

In addition, any visions, mysterious sounds and even the feeling of someone's icy hand on his shoulder can be the result of exposure to infrasound on the human brain or anomalies of the magnetic field, I am sure. Recently, more and more electronic devices appear in our life, in which magnetic waves are used. Hence the sharply increased number of strange visual, auditory and tactile effects that people face.

An example of this is what happened with the English computer programmer Vik Tandy.

It all started one fine evening, when Vick worked in his laboratory. Suddenly, the programmer broke through a cold sweat, and he felt someone's gaze on him. And a ghost appeared in the room! It looked like a blur.a gray clot in which the outlines of a human figure could hardly be guessed.

After a moment, the silhouette melted into air. After recovering from the shock, Tandy tried to determine the cause of the phenomenon. He was convinced that the vision was not a hallucination, because he did not consume either alcohol or psychotropic drugs. Using the infrasound device measured the frequency of elastic waves in the room.

She was 18.98 Hz. At this frequency, the human eyeballs begin to resonate. Infrasound is not perceived by the human ear, but is able to influence the body and mental state, causing a deception of feelings and vision.

Over Britain, the scientist says, the winds are constantly blowing. A gust of wind, falling into a chimney, a narrow tower or into a long winding corridor, of which there are many in ancient castles, generates a special kind of sound waves, the properties of which have not yet been studied. Here they are the culprits of the appearance of ghosts.

However, the version of Vick Tandy caused serious controversy among physicists. The fact is that during the experiments with infrasound, the volunteers noted a change in their physical condition: signs of fatigue, pressure in the ear and eye area - but no one declared hallucinations.

"Ghost" photos33

Argument in favor of the existence of ghosts are numerous photographs, which show strange entities and objects that are not visible to the eye. At one of the Internet sites in the United States, a whole collection of similar images, recognized by the expertise as 100% authentic, has been collected. Here are some examples.

One American, after the death of his father, was sorting out old family photographs and came across a curious group picture taken in the 1950s at a hospital in Ontario, where his father was at that time. In the center of the picture is a man who, according to the stories of his father, was considered crazy, - he claimed that he constantly sees various spirits around him. Next to him are his sisters, and foggy formations are clearly visible around. One resembles a human face, and the other two are muzzles of animals.

In another photo from the collection in the mysterious glow above the Catholic Church, the outlines of some ghostly, ugly creature are discerned.

Members of the Cleveland Ghostbusters Association managed to capture interesting shots at the family cemetery. In one picture you can clearly see someone's face in a hazy mist. On the other - a vague image resembling an old man with a child in her arms.On several photos, a large cross and two spheres of different sizes appear, vertically hovering near one of the monuments.

Delia Underwood sent a photo of her son. The boy’s face is crossed by a strange orange band. Having enlarged the picture on the computer, his father was surprised to find the head of a man in the zone of this strip.

Joseph White provided the site with several pictures of the Christmas holiday, which he downloaded from the web in 1998. Two years later, the characteristic face of Santa Claus suddenly appeared on one of them. And on the other four misty silhouettes of some people appeared. Apparently, ghosts now live even in computers!

But why are we so sure that the images are otherworldly phantoms? Maybe there are more realistic explanations? For example, optical effects, film defects. Why do we often take spots with fuzzy outlines for ghosts?

Alas, we identify them only with the help of imagination. If we believe in ghosts, angels or demons, then we are ready to see them. Whereas it can only be a fancy play of light and shadow, an optical effect caused by a certain combination of objects caught in the lens. Finally, we can really talk about phenomena related to the so-called “subtle world”, but their essence is completely different than we imagine.

But what about the cases when cameras and camcorders capture clear silhouettes, faces of unknown people?34

Researchers believe that too clear images, issued for "anomalies", indicate that the objects in the frames belong more likely to our physical world than to the other world.

Well, representatives of subtle dimensions cannot look as “material” as we do! Perhaps the most reliable are images where you can see the features of a ghost, but they are slightly blurred. In any case, without examination, nothing can be said with confidence.
