How to treat intestinal infection

How to treat intestinal infection?

Disease development

In the autumn-winter period, the human body is weakened by climatic changes, cold, high humidity and lack of vitamins - that is why it becomes vulnerable to various harmful microorganisms.

This is especially pronounced in children who can get sick 2–5 times a year due to the lack of strong immunity. This is used by viruses of different groups:

  • Calcium viruses;
  • astroviruses;
  • noroviruses;
  • rotaviruses;
  • adenoviruses.

Penetrating into the human body, they cause symptoms of a disease known as gastric flu.

The doctor is holding a virus sample.It is useless to treat a person from such an illness - at the moment there is no corresponding medication. As a result, the viruses that become the cause of gastric flu, quickly penetrate into the small intestine, where they multiply rapidly.

In adults, the incubation period lasts about 3–7 days, whereas for children it is often enough 10–30 hours before the onset of the first symptoms.

In a normal immune response, the disease self-extinguishes within 7–10 days, after which the person develops a temporary immunity of about one month.

If a patient has a severely weakened body and does not receive appropriate treatment for gastric flu, the disease can become chronic with up to 15-25 days.

In the most severe cases, the symptoms of such gastric flu can be fatal due to dehydration, internal bleeding, or exhaustion of the body.

Symptomatology

Gastric Fluusually diagnosed by catarrhal symptoms that occur first.These include pain in the nose and throat, runny nose, cough, redness of the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx and palate, as well as increased discharge of tears. However, they usually disappear completely after 2–3 days, or go into a form of mild ailment. At the same time, no specific treatment is required for a patient suffering from gastric flu, since this is not the danger of the disease.

Mom talks with her daughter in bedIn children, gastrointestinal symptoms may appear as early as the first day of the disease, whereas in adults they are diagnosed for about 2-3 days.The first sign is severe diarrhea, which can lead to dehydration. In children with gastric flu develops vomiting, aggravating the condition of the body. In severe cases, you may experience severe stomach cramps or even pain, hampering the movement of the patient.

A specific symptom of gastric flu is a strong rumbling in the stomach, which can be heard even with a slight pressure on it. As with other infectious diseases, the temperature rises - in adults it reaches subfebrile levels, whereas in children the real fever can begin (up to 38.5 degrees). There is also a weakness, apathy, unwillingness to get out of bed - and such symptoms may appear even for some time after a person is cured.

Talking about self-diagnosis of gastric flu is impossible. Its symptoms are exactly the same signs of diseases such as:

  • poisoning;
  • salmonellosis;
  • cholera;
  • hitting a large foreign body in the stomach.
A patient should be treated only by a highly qualified doctor who will make a correct diagnosis based on a smear, blood test and gastroscopy.

It is worth remembering the recommendations of experts who say that for any pain in the abdomen and any long-term breakdown of the digestive system, you should immediately contact a medical institution.

Causes and Prevention

Most often, gastric flu is caused by an infection of a person through water and food. Approximately 90% of cases of disease occur in closed institutions - offices, schools, institutes, state-owned enterprises and others. Viruses enter the liquid and food along with traces of feces from infected people. To prevent an outbreak of gastric flu can only personal hygiene - that is why it is called the "disease of unwashed hands." In the institution for children, when a disease is detected, quarantine is appointed, for adults, an enhanced sanitary regime is appointed.

Wet cleaningThe virus of gastric flu is transmitted by airborne droplets - in most cases, this method of infection is observed when the patient has vomiting. If the disease is not treated even symptomatically, in its chronic form a person can become an active distributor of infection.That is why, in hospitals and other institutions, wet cleaning is regularly carried out and surfaces are wiped with a weak solution of chlorine.

The virus of gastric flu can also be killed by heating and quartz - therefore, UV lamps are installed in the room, and the patient's clothes are exposed to high-temperature processing.

Transmission of gastric flu by a household contact is not excluded. Therefore, during the outbreak of the disease is recommended to use their own dishes and refuse the services of a common dining room. In offices, gastric flu is spread quite often through drinking water machines and coolers — this should also be noted.

Wash hands thoroughly with good quality soap before eating. It should be remembered that it is much easier to prevent the disease of the stomach flu than to cure its consequences.

Disease treatment

As mentioned above, the specific treatment of gastric flu has not yet been developed. The American company Ligocyte once engaged in the creation of a vaccine against rotaviruses and noroviruses, but its experts failed in the first phase of testing the obtained medication.Now, work in this direction is continuing, although in the next 10–15 years there will be no practically significant result.

Regidron BagTreatment of gastric flu is purely symptomatic. At the beginning of diarrhea and vomiting, water and salt balance should be restored - to do this, dilute the package of Regidron in a liter of warm water and drink 1-2 small sips.

In the absence of Regidron, you can make the solution yourself. For this you will need:

  • 700 ml of weak chamomile decoction;
  • 5 teaspoons of sugar;
  • a teaspoon of salt;
  • half a teaspoon of soda;
  • 300 ml of dried apricots and raisins.

During the first six hours of fluid loss, you should drink 200 ml of the mixture, then take as described above.

Be sure to take the sorbents, for example, activated carbon, Sorbeks, Enterosgel or others twice a day until the gastrointestinal symptoms are completely eliminated. Also, doctors recommend taking with gastric flu preparations containing digestive enzymes, for example, Mezim, Creon or Pancreatin.

With continuous diarrhea (more than 5 bowel movements per day) Enterol or Enterofuril is prescribed. After the complete cure of gastric flu, it is necessary to use some time to restore the intestinal microflora - Linex, Hilak, Bifiform, or others.
