From the gate to eternity
This tragedy occurred 14 years ago. Sergey Perkhun, goalkeeper of the Moscow-based CSKA and Ukraine national team, was seriously injured in the match against Anji in Makhachkala, when, coming out on the 75th minute outside the penalty area to intercept the ball, he collided with the attacker hosts Budun Budunov. After in the hospital Perhunu treated wounds on his head and injected with tetanus toxoid serum, the doctors thought that the goalkeeper came to his senses. But on the way to Perhun airport he lost consciousness and he was immediately sent back to the republican hospital. There, reanimatologists struggled for his life - the heart only started at the second attempt, but the goalkeeper never regained consciousness until his death, which occurred at the Burdenko Institute of Neurosurgery in Moscow. An autopsy revealed that a strong blow led to swelling of the brain and cell death due to the arrest of blood flow. Sergey Perkhun became the first sportsman in the history of Russian football who died as a result of an injury on the field.
